🚗 UTeM Campus Parking Guide: Authorized Zones, Sticker Rules & Clamping Hotspots

Nothing ruins a day on campus faster than walking out of a 2-hour lecture to find a heavy yellow tire clamp locked around your car's wheel, accompanied by a Polis Bantuan citation notice on your windshield.

Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka (UTeM) strictly enforces its campus traffic and parking regulations through Polis Bantuan (PB) UTeM to ensure emergency access, bus lane clearance, and pedestrian safety across both Kampus Induk (Durian Tunggal) and Kampus Teknologi (Ayer Keroh). This comprehensive guide breaks down authorized student parking bays, vehicle registration stickers, known clamping hotspots, and the step-by-step procedure to get a clamp unlocked.

⚠️ Golden Rule: Petak Putih (White Bays) vs Petak Kuning (Yellow Bays) In UTeM, white-lined parking bays are open to registered students and visitors. Yellow-lined, numbered, or covered bays (petak berbumbung) are strictly reserved for university staff, lecturers, and university officials. Parking in a staff bay or blocking roadway curves is an automatic clamp trigger.

1. High-Risk Clamping Hotspots (Zon Kerap Kena Clamp)

Polis Bantuan patrols regularly on motorcycles throughout peak academic hours (8:30 AM – 4:30 PM). Avoid parking in these high-enforcement danger zones:

HOTSPOT #1 • KAMPUS INDUK

FTMK Front Lobby & Roundabout Curb

The curb directly in front of FTMK is strictly for 2-minute passenger drop-offs. Students who park there to rush into lab sessions get clamped within 15 minutes.

HOTSPOT #2 • KAMPUS INDUK

Dewan Canselor (DC) Admin Perimeter

Reserved exclusively for Chancellery VIPs and senior management. Always use the large open student gravel parking lot located behind the sports complex instead.

HOTSPOT #3 • KAMPUS INDUK

Masjid Sayyidina Ali Roadside Curves

Parking on the curves outside the mosque narrows the road and prevents campus shuttle buses from completing turns, causing immediate clamping and traffic obstruction tickets.

HOTSPOT #4 • KAMPUS TEKNOLOGI

KT Ayer Keroh Barrier Gate & Workshop Strip

Parking inside the mechanical workshop driveway blocks machinery and forklift movement. Students must park in the designated open bays before the entrance gate.

2. Authorized Student Parking Locations

Campus Area Authorized Student Bays Vehicle Types Walking Time to Class
FTMK (Faculty of Computing) Large open-air student car park across from FTMK lake & covered motorcycle shed 🚗 Cars • 🏍️ Motorcycles 2 – 3 Mins
FKM & FKP Engineering Complex Open perimeter bays along the engineering wing and perimeter road 🚗 Cars • 🏍️ Motorcycles 3 – 4 Mins
Kompleks Sukan & Stadium Spacious stadium parking lot (guaranteed spots even during peak exam hours) 🚗 Cars (Best for seniors & commuters) 5 – 7 Mins
Kolej Kediaman Satria Designated hostel motorcycle shelters and registered outer car perimeter 🏍️ Motorcycles • 🚗 Eligible cars only 1 – 2 Mins
Kampus Teknologi (Ayer Keroh) Public & student parking zone situated directly before the main security guardhouse 🚗 Cars • 🏍️ Motorcycles 2 – 3 Mins

3. Vehicle Sticker Rules & Application (Pelekat Kenderaan)

Every motor vehicle driven on campus must display a valid Pelekat Kenderaan Pelajar UTeM. Vehicles without an active semester sticker are subject to summons upon entry:

  • Motorcycles: Permitted for all undergraduate students from Year 1 onwards. Application is processed through SMPweb at the start of each academic year.
  • Cars: Under official university policy, first-year hostel residents (Kolej Satria/Lestari) are generally not permitted to bring private cars to campus due to bay constraints, unless granted special medical, disability, or committee exemptions. Non-resident (NR) commuters and senior students (Year 2+) are eligible to register vehicles online.
  • Required Documents for Application: Valid Driving License (Lesen Memandu), Student Matric Card, Vehicle Grant/Registration Card, and active Road Tax & Insurance certificate.

4. What to Do If Your Vehicle Gets Clamped (Prosedur Buka Clamp)

If your car is clamped, follow these exact steps to resolve the clamp as quickly as possible:

  1. Do Not Forcefully Move the Vehicle: Attempting to drive off with a clamp attached will cause thousands of ringgit in suspension, wheel rim, and brake rotor damage.
  2. Locate the Yellow Summons Notice: Check your windshield wiper for the Polis Bantuan citation ticket. Note down the Notice Number and the officer's contact code.
  3. Call Polis Bantuan 24/7 Control Room: Contact the campus security desk at 06-270 1200 or 06-270 1201 to report your vehicle's location and registration number.
  4. Proceed to Polis Bantuan HQ: Head to the Main Security Office (Pos Kawalan Utama) located at the Kampus Induk entrance gate.
  5. Settle the Compound Fine: Pay the clamp release compound (standard university rate is typically RM50.00). Keep the payment receipt.
  6. Wait for the Patrol Officer: A Polis Bantuan officer will be dispatched to your vehicle to unlock and retrieve the clamp.
